When we started working on Gods of the Game we wanted to incorporate some of the most famous opera arias routinely used as chants at football games in the show. And more than that, we also wanted audiences to come to the opera and not feel put off by the music. We wanted them to feel that opera was accessible - even if they weren't regular opera-goers. Obviously, with a brand new opera with all new music that wouldn't happen. So our brilliant librettist reworked some operatic classics - and our five-a-side composing team also got to work to reimagining familiar music.
